**UPDATE!! Good news… I am so happy to let you know that we have had plenty of fires in our fireplace and so far, so good! The tiles did get warm but they are still stuck on my fireplace with no damage to the tiles. Can peel and stick tiles be used on a fireplace? But the next time we use the fireplace, I will be sitting beside it with a fire extinguisher…and then I will come back and report what happened. We also use our fireplace maybe three times a year. Our fireplace is a gas fireplace and the flames are pretty controlled and we keep the glass door shut when the fire is burning. I have no idea if these heat resistant tiles will actually not melt like cheese in a grilled cheese sandwich either.

DIY Fireplace Makeover: How to makeover your outdated fireplace on a budget How To Apply Peel And Stick Tiles On Fireplace I love when good ideas and DIY projects go my way. It’s amazing what some paint and stickers can do to a room, am I right? This was a picture I found on my phone shortly after we moved in. I hit “add to cart” and the rest was historyīut first, a before. I knew this was going to be the easiest way for me to transform my fireplace. I have looked at peel and stick tiles before for this project but worried the backing would melt like sliced cheese in a grilled cheese sandwich on my tile surround.

The word “ heat resistant” in the description is what got my heart beating happy beats and was the best part of this whole makeover. Let me repeat myself… Heat resistant peel and stick tile.

Did I want to turn it into a stone fireplace? Did I want to try to stencil over it?ĭid I want a modern look? Did I want a traditional look? Did I want a contemporary look?Īnd then I found it….exactly what I needed… Did I want to just slap some paint on the existing tile and call it a day? Did I want to hire someone to come bust it out and replace it with real marble? Did I want to attempt that myself? (That was a big fat no). I had so many ideas with this fireplace but I just couldn’t put my finger on what I wanted to do. It was the first thing that my eye went to in our living room. It wasn’t that I absolutely hated the hunter green fireplace surround that was there when we moved in, but it was more of a distraction to me. How I managed to decide on three names for my children is amazing in itself. I’m not sure how hard that would be to remove over time though. Why I waited so long to give my old fireplace it’s much needed makeover is beyond me. My pros for this tile: THE PRICE! The fact that they offer beautiful unique patterns! The tile is renter-friendly, especially if you are able to use them without using the very sticky carpet tape. The pattern is rather busy but since it is so cheap I didn’t fear that I would grow sick of it at some point.Would ripping out the tile and adding beautiful new tile last longer? Yes!!! But you pay for that too and it would never be this cheap. You can’t beat the cheap price! If you are on a budget and want a quick fix to simply like your space better then this tile is for you.My final thoughts about this cheap peel and stick floor tile That really added the finishing touch to the project. I was able to find enough clean tiles though to finish my project and still have extras.Īnd when everything was done, I precut and painted the quarter round molding and added it to the existing molding with my brad nailer to hide the slight gaps around the wall. Again, this tile is cheap and not perfect. Some boxes do have tiles with stains or marks on them like some of the reviewers mentioned.Make sure you have extra tiles left to replace possible damaged ones from wear and tear as time passes. This was definitely a must for me, especially in areas where the floor underneath wasn’t perfect. You might have to use other glue, like the carpet tape, to help the tile stick better.I tend to be that way but in the overall look it ended up being ok with me. It won’t be perfect and that’s ok because they are cheap and even with expensive handpainted tile this can happen. This might really bother someone who is a perfectionist. In the end, it is impossible to match the pattern perfectly. Rotate the tiles before sticking them on the surface to minimize odd pattern offset.Don’t EVER use a magic eraser to clean this tile (look at the photo below, it dulls the tile and is super noticeable.Things I learned while applying these cheap peel and stick floor tiles:
